Jewellery Restoration & Repair

The aftermath of an accident can leave even the most precious jewel unrecognisable.
How do you know if your damaged or broken ring, necklace or another piece of jewellery can be repaired?
Many of our clients bring in for repair, jewellery that they love to wear everyday or pieces that have broke and are in need of repair and restoration. Rings, pendants, chains, earrings and the like, that are no longer safe to wear.
Jewellery restoration and repair focuses on the structural integrity, safety, and longevity of your jewellery. Our restoration service focuses on careful assessment, craftsmanship, and repair. From modern pieces to well‑loved heirlooms, we work to restore the beauty and wear-ability of your jewellery.
The good thing about most pieces of jewellery is that they can be repaired and brought back to life.
When you bring us a piece of jewellery for restoration or repair, we will make an assessment of your jewellery to see what can be done to address identified wear that has occurred and what can be done to prevent further damage. We consider many things, the age of the jewel, the materials used when it was made or previously repaired, and can the jewel actually be safely restored, as sometimes not everything can. Sometimes a jewel comes to a point in its journey with you where no further restoration can occur. We will always advise you if this is the case.
Do you have a ring that has lost a gem or no longer fits you?
We can consider ring designs made in precious metals that are either plain or gemstone set. What condition is it in at the moment and what may have happened to it?
We need to understand if it fits you in its current resize, and also confirm the size of your finger size that you prefer to wear it on. This will tell us if it needs resizing, or if we're good to go on as it is.
Other conditions that may need assessing are:
-
Is it out of shape? Do you find it comfortable as it is or do you prefer it to be returned to is original shape?
-
Has the metal become too thin?
-
Has the metal become fatigued or is under tension causing it to break?
-
Has the metal cracked or broken off completely?
-
Does it have edges that have become worn as a result of being rubbed against other rings? Rubbing against other jewellery can affect the shank as well as settings if they are part of the rings' design.
Luckily most scenarios can be rectified with care.
The purpose of a gemstone setting on your jewellery.
From a jeweller’s perspective, gemstone settings may define the style of the jewel, or the Maker, Settings maximise your gems' natural qualities ie: brilliance, colour, and other attributes.
They are made to fit the shape and dimensions of your gems, and to securely hold the gemstone in place on the design. Settings offer some protection from everyday wear, and ensure the piece is durable for long‑term use.
So, let us help prevent unwanted damage to your jewels.
If your settings on your ring, pendant, bracelet, or brooch are worn you run the risk of gemstone loss, or further structural damage, if you continue to wear it.
If there is damage, we can advise you on what can be safely done to restore the integrity of the settings and the piece of jewellery. Typically claws wear away or break off when caught, when they do we recommend that all claws are re-tipped, so that future wear is not compromised.
The perfect environment for your gems to fall out is broken claws. If you have suffered that loss, we can source precious and synthetic gemstones in most colours, cuts, and dimension to replace what was lost.
On occasion we also sourced custom cuts to replace a very special gemstone, from our trusted Auckland based Supplier. To help prevent unwanted loss or damage we recommend that you have your gemstone set jewellery, that you love to wear often, checked annually.
Typically day to day wear and tear is not covered by your insurance company but, please check your insurance policy to see what you are covered for when you experience significant loss or damage to your jewellery.

This restoration demonstrates how considered craftsmanship can restore your favourite jewel.
Is your favourite chain broken? Its the weakest link that gives way first!
If you have a chain that needs repair, we can give you some guidance on its ability to be rejoined.
Normally, hollow link chains need a bit more consideration than solid links, but in most cases a repair can be achieved. If your clasp is broken or doesn't spring back, the issue may be the small spring within the clasps that is faulty. We may need to replace the clasp instead of repairing it, as it is a more cost effective way to deal with that issue. We can discuss ways to offset the costs of the new clasp with the old.
Often times links and pendants on a chain become worn down. The is mainly due to the parts rubbing against each other. These can be rebuilt. But if you are not sure we can assess your chain and advise you on what we can do.

There is something very special about vintage and antique jewellery.
These jewels have been serviced making them ready to be loved, and worn with pride.
What if your jewellery is vintage or antique, can this be restored or repaired?
Your jewellery often holds deep personal meaning, when it is damaged, the loss can feel significant.
When we look to restore vintage or antique jewels, we need to consider the age of the jewel, the materials it is constructed of, the type of gemstones that have been set, (if they're present), and can the jewel actually be safely restored, as sometimes not everything can be. Sadly, sometimes a jewel comes to a point in its life where no further restoration can occur. We will always advise you if this is the case. (A nice thing to do with these types of antique jewels it to make them an "Objet Mémoire" and display it in a meaningful way).
Our restoration services may include ring sizing, reshaping, restoring any settings and the gemstones, rejoining chain and clasp repairs.
Where possible, existing gemstones are quality and colour‑matched. We will use traditional goldsmithing and modern processes to carefully restore your jewel so that the character and craftsmanship are retained and you can then choose to wear it or hand it on to someone special.
Working with you has four steps when you approve our services in jewellery restoration and repair.
Step 1 - Let's schedule a meeting to discuss what outcomes you're wanting to achieve for your jewellery.
Depending on what your jewellery needs we can discuss we can meet those outcomes and how to manage your existing pieces or offset the costs, in the process of restoring and repairing your jewellery. Our base rate starts at $70.00 for simpler tasks.
Step 2 - Once we have understood your needs and concerns and before moving on to the next step, we will provide you with our all inclusive quote. It may take us a few days to complete that quote, including confirmation of the timeframes involved once all aspects of the restoration or repair are known.
Depending on what needs to be restored or repaired timeframes are usually between 10 days to 4 weeks.
We will send that to you either by text or by email, for you to consider and confirm your approval. Your quotes are valid for 3 days.
We can accommodate urgent work but we will need to advise you separately on that cost.
For more information please see our Terms of Trade.
Step 3 - If an independent valuation has been requested, we will prepare your jewellery for its appraisal. We'll check with you if you still have a copy of any previous valuations, so that we can provide that to the Valuer. We will then personally manage the appraisal on your behalf.
Please note: As at 3 April 2026, Valuers in Auckland are working with extreme volumes, due to the current global events that have affected precious metals, which may mean 4-6 week for the appraisal to be completed.
Step 4 - As soon as your jewellery is ready for collection, we will confirm that with you, and advise our account details for payment. At this time you are welcome to make payment prior to collection via your banking app, or by eftpos at the studio.
