Jewellery Restoration & Repair

The aftermath of an accident can leave even the most precious jewel unrecognisable.
Jewellery restoration and repair focuses on the structural integrity, safety, and longevity of your fine jewellery.
Our jewellery restoration service focuses on thoughtful craftsmanship, careful assessment, and respectful repair. From severely damaged pieces to well‑loved heirlooms, we work to restore both beauty and wearability with precision and care. Over time, a well loved jewel worn everyday can start to show wear on its different elements.
Compromised settings, claws, bands, links, and clasps, increasing the risk of stone loss or metal failure can happen to every type of jewellery. The good thing about most pieces of jewellery is that they can be repaired and brought back to life.
When you bring us a piece of jewellery for restoration or repair, we will make an assessment of your jewellery to see what can be done to address identified wear that has occurred and what can be done to prevent further damage.
When we look to restore a jewel, we consider many things. The age of the jewel, the materials it is constructed of and can the jewel actually be safely restored, as sometimes not everything can. Sometimes a jewel comes to a point in its journey with you where no further restoration can occur. We will always advise you if this is the case.
Rings - Designs made in precious metals that are either plain or gemstone set
We consider the condition as it stands and learn more from you about on how it is worn and what may have happened to it.
We need to understand if it fits you in its current resize, and also confirm the size of your finger size that you prefer to wear it on. This will tell us if it needs resizing, or if we're good to go on as it is.
Other conditions that may need assessing are:
-
Is it out of shape, do you find it comfortable as it is or do you prefer it to be returned to is original shape
-
Has the metal become too thin
-
Has the metal become fatigued or is under tension causing it to break
-
Has the metal cracked or broken off completely
-
Does it have edges that have become worn as a result of being rubbed against other rings. Rubbing against other jewellery can affect the shank as well as settings if they are part of the rings' design.
Luckily most scenarios can be rectified. We will advise you of the best course of action.
The purpose of a gemstone setting on your jewellery
From a jeweller’s perspective, gemstone settings are designed and crafted to fit the shape and dimensions of the gem, and to securely hold the gemstone in place on the design. Settings offer some protection from everyday wear, and ensure the piece is durable for long‑term use. Gemstone settings also help define the style of the jewel or the Maker, maximising the stone’s natural qualities ie: brilliance, colour, and other attributes.
Let's prevent unwanted damage to your jewels
If your settings on your ring, pendant, bracelet, or brooch are worn you run the risk of gemstone loss, or further damage if you continue to wear it.
Once there is damage we can advise you on what can be safely done to restore the integrity the piece of jewellery and the setting. Typically claws wear away or break off when caught, when they do we recommend that all claws are re-tipped.
If broken claws have allowed for the perfect environment for your gemstone to fall out, we can source precious and synthetic gemstone in most colours, cuts, and dimension to replace what was lost. We also have a trusted gemstone supplier who, on occasion, custom cut to replace a very special gemstone. To help prevent unwanted loss or damage we recommend that you have your gemstone set jewellery that you love to wear often, checked annually.
Typically day to day wear and tear is not covered by your insurance but please check your insurance policy to see what you are covered for when you experience significant loss or damage to your jewellery.

Chain broken? Its the weakest link that gives way first, when your chain gets caught!
If you have a chain that needs repair, we can give you some guidance on its ability to be rejoined. Normally, hollow link chains need a bit more consideration than solid links, but in most cases a repair can be achieved. If your clasp is broken or doesn't spring back, the issue may be the small spring within the clasps that is faulty. We may need to replace the clasp instead of repairing it, as it is a more cost effective way to deal with that issue. We can discuss ways to offset the costs of the new clasp with the old.
Often times links and pendants on a chain become worn down. The is mainly due to the parts rubbing against each other. Links and top rings on pendant can be rebuilt and repairs. We can assess of your chain and advise you on what we can do.
The restoration of vintage or antique jewellery.
When we look to restore vintage or antique jewel, we consider the age of the jewel, the materials it is constructed of, the type of gemstones if they are a part of the design, and can the jewel actually be safely restored, as sometimes not everything can be. Sometimes a jewel comes to a point in its journey with you where no further restoration can occur. We will always advise you if this is the case.
Where possible, we will source gemstones that are sympathetic to the existing gemstones, quality and colour‑matched where possible to complete the design. We will use traditional goldsmithing techniques, alongside modern procedures to ensure the restoration is fit for purpose and offer strength and durability or continued wear. Rather than cosmetic fixes, specialist restoration prioritises structural rebuilding so your vintage or antique piece can be worn safely and retains its original character and craftsmanship.
Your jewellery often holds deep personal meaning, when it is damaged, the loss can feel significant. Our jewellery restoration services combines skilled craftsmanship with thoughtful care, allowing damaged pieces to be carefully rebuilt, strengthened, and restored so they can be worn and treasured once more.
