Take your gem setting skills to new heights under the expert guidance of renowned Master Goldsmith, Peter Keep and delve into the essential principles and techniques of gem setting. Who is Peter Keep? Peter has over 50 years of experience as a Designer Goldsmith, Manufacturing Jeweller, and is a celebrated Trade Tutor. He has crafted a comprehensive program that has excellent learning outcomes for jewellers, apprentices, and students alike. Peter has a wonderful personality and makes the class so enjoyable and achievable. What will I learn? This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience at the bench, with full tuition and guidance from Peter. Throughout the course, you are introduced to the best practices for split claw, gypsy, and star settings, including metal thickness ratios, spacing, techniques, and the necessary tools for effective setting. You'll also learn how to clean up after setting, ensuring your pieces are polished to perfection. How long is the class? Join us for two days of immersive learning with Peter, from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm each day. Please arrive 10 minutes before class starts at 9.30am, each day. This program is jam packed with content, that we'd love you to get the most benefit from. Who is this gem setting course for? The course is perfect for jewellery makers with intermediate skill level and above, who are looking to refine their techniques and achieve greater precision in their work. What does the class fee include? As part of the course fee, you will receive a setting pack, including practice blanks and CZs to work with during the sessions. (Peter will also have extra setting packs and his patented pliers available for purchase if you wish to keep practicing your newly acquired skills with the same materials). What tools do I need? The Auckland studio is a fully equipped for the class however, you will receive an additional tool list that you may need to buy to enable you to continue practising. This will be sent to you well in advance of the class, so that you have time to get what you may need. What’s next? Join us in the Advanced Gem Setting Course if you wish to continue to develop your skills. This course covers techniques in grain and pave setting and to achieve greater precision in your work. Please note: Within your booking is a compulsory half hour break included, so please bring something to munch. Tea & coffee provided.

Booking Policy
In our Workshop closed toe shoes must be worn; sneakers do the job nicely! Please have any long hair tied up. Bring your eyeglasses if you need to see up close. All participants must be at least 14 years old. Please arrive 5 minutes before your class start time. If you are more than 10 minutes late you forfeit your booking. There is no parking on site. Parking spaces are well signposted on the surrounding streets. As an alternative use public transport, as the New Lynn Bus & Train Station is a short walk away.
