Service Description

Discover the essentials of wax carving in our Wax Class 101 How long is the class? Your session runs for 3.5 hours, giving you plenty of time to learn, plan and carve your designs in hard jewellers’ wax. Who are these workshops for? The Wax 101 is the perfect introduction for beginners, and a creative upgrade for those already making jewellery. What will I learn? Working with wax is fun, hands-on and incredibly satisfying. You’ll learn how to carve unique wax designs that can be cast as a one-off piece or finished as a master pattern for future creations. Throughout the class we share practical tips and problem-solving techniques to help you prepare your wax pieces for casting with confidence. What do I need to bring or wear? Bring any pictures or concepts if you have any Wear closed-toe shoes — sneakers are perfect Please tie up long hair Bring your glasses if you need them for close-up work What does the class fee include? All tools and materials are provided including wax to practice on. One finished wax piece cast in your choice of Bronze, White Bronze, or Sterling Silver. Professional after casting clean up and polishing (brushed or shiny), ready for collection. Optional add-ons Additional finished wax pieces cast in your choice of Bronze, White Bronze, or Sterling Silver. We can quote to have your designs cast in Gold or Platinum. What's next? Book a Casual Bench Hire and learn to clean up your castings. Join our Jewellery Making Courses to expand your skills into fabrication Incorporate your one-off pieces into more advanced jewellery projects. Want to work on a larger project? Absolutely—larger projects are welcome. Contact us at least 5 days before your class so we can understand your design, quote and prepare everything you need. Our casting partners All casting is managed offsite through the two leading New Zealand foundries. Minturn Jewellery Ltd has proudly worked with both companies for 2 generations. Both foundries consistently produce high-quality casting results and follow environmentally responsible, sustainable practices. Pricing & materials We carefully monitor precious metal and material costs, which may change over time. While global prices fluctuate, we remain committed to offering exceptional value and a welcoming learning experience in our workshop—this is what matters most to us. Thank you for your support

Booking Policy

In our Workshop closed toe shoes MUST be worn; sneakers do the job nicely! Please have any long hair tied up. Bring your eyeglasses if you need to see up close. Please arrive 5 minutes before your class start time. If you are more than 10 minutes late you forfeit your booking. There is no parking on site. Parking spaces are well signposted on the surrounding streets. As an alternative use public transport, as the New Lynn Bus & Train Station is a short walk away.
